Lorraine Gill Galleries - The Clapham Road Series

Hampstead Street

When I first came to England I eventually landed in Hampstead. It still had a village atmosphere, where we could watch the world go by from restaurant windows.

I had begun to go to evening classes on Finchley Road to keep up my training-skills as an artist. My teacher advised that I should try for a grant to study full-time elsewhere.

Fortunately, City and Guilds accepted my application; then followed a new life.

This is an early etching of one of those streets in Hampstead. The sign is a Gallery where my work was exhibited.
