Lorraine Gill Galleries - The Clapham Road Series

Cleaver Square

The etching - room at City and Guilds was a hive of industry: acid-cupboards; large old etching press; benches; litho-press; the smell of turps and inks as I look back, a memory to be treasured in terms of both atmosphere and quality.

I would sit at the bench overlooking Cleaver Square which was situated behind the school. It was an oasis of grandeur at the time - I liked the formality of the trees and benches where we would seek sanctuary from time to time.
