Lorraine Gill Galleries - The Outback Series
Dusk at CookernupWhilst staying with my friends John and Janet Newland at this very small settlement called Cookernup in Western Australia, with just one tiny store for shopping, I was on my way from their house to another location, being driven by them, when the vast desert planes opened themselves, revealing a violet range of mountains and a quite bizarre tree which had grown, curved over, and replanted itself, at a distance away, and which was still sprouting into fronds.
Because of the light, which was different in Western Australia, the entire scene had become gold, with pure purple shadows.
The tree itself was lit with an outline of gold; on the leaves, a dusky green, and left over machinery from previous inhabitants, reflecting the spikes of the dead trees that were standing in the distance.
I have indicated the sun as just one pure circle of gold.
It was a scene of vibrant isolation.
