Lorraine Gill Galleries - The Australian Series
Sometimes the sky, with its vast galaxy of stars, seems touchable. It is so clear and clean. The earth without apparent boundaries in the horizon-disintegrating heat, appears to become part of the galaxy itself. The patterns of the stars and the patterns on the earth and its flora and fauna appeared to be intertwined in a different time and space. It is as though all is a Oneness. I have used the shadows of the spinifex to give not only purple patterns but a definition of spatial areas. The colours are so pure in the Northern Territory that vibrations of kinetic rhythms are inevitable. The land is full of optical illusions, assisted by the complementary colours of red against green, blue against yellow, and purples against yellow. These effects are augmented by the high contrasts of shadows. In the painting, the earth and the sky are intertwined.
