Lorraine Gill Galleries - The Australian Series
The white gum trees create vein-like shapes through the Outback landscape, providing a ‘life force’ to perception. The leaves that twist, turn and shimmer are different colours optically shifting and changing. This image reminded me of my own journey, through this wondrous land, during the two-and-a-half years in the desert full of meanderings, mystery, extraordinary events and surprises. The small markings, symbolic of animal, plant, and perceptual movement, traverse the image on different journeys over space and time. The silver circle with ‘cosmic joke’ refers to the illusions that constantly challenge, trick and play games with our senses in the Outback. While looking at the painting the viewer should experience similar movement and surprise.
