Lorraine Gill Galleries - The Australian Series
After a few weeks I managed to make my way out to Uluru which is approximately 300 miles out of Alice. I had secured work there in a very small chalet as a general dogsbody getting up at 5.00 a.m. and making tea for the tourists as well as serving behind the bar. I was loaned a car and sometimes drove out to absorb the miraculous and strange landscape. On one occasion there was nothingness except the horizon. It appeared to be a 360 degrees flat plane in space. The clouds were a dome disappearing into the horizon. It was indeed a timeless land and the only elements that gave a sense of livingness and time were the little animal markings traversing the desert.
